Telesis Receives Woman-Owned Business Certification

February 2005 - Telesis Communication Services, a provider of Telecom Services and IP Based Solutions announces that it has been certified as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) by the State of New York. While Telesis has been 51% women owned and operated since its inception, the WBE Certification provides third-party verification of that status. This is a valuable tool in accessing supplier diversity programs with corporations and governmental procurement programs.

The certification process is comprehensive and extends far beyond verification of legal ownership by women. Business owners seeking certification must provide clear and documented evidence that at least 51% of the company is women owned, controlled and operated. Specifically, the women business owners must direct policy, fiscal and operational matters of the company. The contribution of capital and expertise must be substantial and in proportion to the interest owned. Finally, the women business owners must have the ability to perform in the company's area of specialty without reliance on the finances or resources of a non-woman business entity.

Many corporations and governmental entities have supplier diversity initiatives requiring that a certain portion of their procurements be spent with WBE's.
